Who is PMP4PG for?

PMP4PG is designed for anyone who needs deep, actionable visibility into PostgreSQL performance — beyond what basic monitoring tools provide. It is particularly well-suited for the following profiles.

PostgreSQL DBA

You are responsible for the health, performance and reliability of one or more PostgreSQL instances in production.

PMP4PG helps you:

  • Investigate slow query incidents in real time with the ASH Viewer — see exactly what was running, what was waiting and what was blocking at any point in the last 8 hours
  • Generate detailed AWR reports between two points in time to understand workload changes after a deployment or a traffic spike
  • Identify regressions by comparing load profiles between snapshot windows
  • Monitor vacuum activity, bloat levels, and WAL generation trends to prevent operational issues before they happen
  • Plan capacity based on database size trends over weeks and months

DevOps / SRE

You manage the platform infrastructure and deployment pipelines, with PostgreSQL as a key dependency.

PMP4PG helps you:

  • Deploy and manage lightweight agents on any PostgreSQL server in your fleet with minimal operational overhead
  • Get a fleet-wide view of all monitored PostgreSQL instances from a single dashboard — statuses, environments, agent health
  • Distinguish production (RUN) from non-production (BUILD) environments across your monitoring scope
  • Receive and act on alerts for critical conditions across the fleet
  • Integrate PMP4PG monitoring into your server provisioning workflow via the agent registration process

Database Architect / Technical Lead

You design data architectures and are responsible for long-term database sustainability.

PMP4PG helps you:

  • Perform capacity planning with objective, data-driven size and throughput trends
  • Identify systemic performance patterns across the fleet
  • Use AWR reports as a diagnostic foundation when reviewing the impact of schema changes, index strategies or configuration tuning

PostgreSQL Developer

You develop applications on top of PostgreSQL and need to understand how your queries behave in your database environments.

PMP4PG helps you:

  • Use the ASH Viewer to observe the real-time impact of your application's queries on the database
  • Spot slow or frequently executed queries in Top SQL without needing DBA-level access to raw PostgreSQL internals
  • Monitor the behavior of your application database in BUILD (development/staging) environments with the same tooling used in production

What You Don't Need

You do not need to be an Oracle DBA to use PMP4PG — although familiarity with Oracle AWR/ASH concepts will help you understand the analytical model faster.

You do not need deep Go or Java knowledge to operate the platform — the agent is distributed as a pre-compiled binary, and the backend is packaged for straightforward deployment.
